Advent 2009Thank You!
Thank you so much to everyone who chose to spend less and give more this Christmas season. As a result, the Mosaic community gave away a total of $27,076.69 through the special Advent offering! 100% of these funds are being redistributed to meet physical and spiritual needs of others. Look for updates throughout the coming year of how God is using this sacrifice for his work around the world.
Share Your Story
We'd love to hear what you did during this Advent season that helped you to focus on Jesus, get to know him more, and live for the same things he lived for. How did you worship Jesus, celebrate with family and friends, serve those around you, spend less on material gifts, make presents, give gifts of time, or give your resources away to care for hurting people? Whatever you did - big or small - we'd love to know about it! Email your story to Anya: .
Refocus the Celebration
THE WORD ADVENT MEANS "COMING" or "arrival". This season marks the four weeks leading up to Christmas and is a time of anticipation and preparation for the coming of the king.
During Advent we recall the long, weary years during which the world waited for its Messiah. We ask Jesus to come more and more into our lives today. We acknowledge that he will come again in glory, as he has promised.
Ironically, during a season that is all about Jesus, if often becomes more difficult to follow him during Advent because of our consumer culture. This year, we want to bring the focus back to Jesus. We want to get to know him more and live for the same things he lived for. We want to examine our traditions and spend less and give more to show the world that Jesus - Immanuel - is still with us.
Here are some tools to help us focus on Jesus this Advent season.

- The Red Envelopes
If you choose to spend less this Christmas, you will have an opportunity to give away the money you would have otherwise spent on holiday loot to help meet physical and spiritual needs of others. 100% of the funds will be redistributed to these projects. Contribute online, at Mosaic Sunday gatherings using a red envelope any time in December, or mail your checks to: Mosaic, PO Box 13128, Portland, OR 97213 (write Advent Conspiracy in the memo line).

Serve others this season through two of our ongoing partners in the city.

- Advent Conspiracy
Many of the freeing changes we have made in our Christmas celebrations were motivated by the Advent Conspiracy movement. We join with thousands of churches around the globe to show that Christmas can still change the world. Learn more at adventconspiracy.org.
