Summer in Kosovo
Part of the vision God has given Mosaic is to plant churches both locally and in Eastern Kosovo. In 2007, Mosaic sent Ron and Lisa Ramsey to join a church-planting team in Gjilan, Kosovo. They sent this summer update from their church planting and community development center:
Like in Portland, the pace of life changes when summer comes to Gjilan. School is out and kids fill the streets playing soccer, in-line skating, or playing hide and seek. Ice cream is once again sold at every corner store along with fresh vegetables from local gardens. It is a time for weddings and all night music and family trips to the sea in Albania. We've changed our schedule at Ringjallja Center as well, and we are busy with special summer projects we would like to ask you to pray for:
LANGUAGE CAMP. Carrie Dyk, who came to Kosovo through the Portland Metro Network, is leading an English camp for kids. She is training two of our Kosovar Christ followers to help teach. She will also be using the native language skills of Mosaic’s very own Danny Vore. Pray for relationships to build as we get to know the youth in our neighborhood.
SUMMER TRAINING CONFERENCE. Five people from our community will gather with other Christ followers from Kosovo and Albania to learn about sharing their story of faith. Pray that they will be encouraged in their faith, hope and love, and share these gifts freely upon their return to Kosovo.
BUSINESS TRAINING. Ron is working with five men in our community to develop business plans that will provide financial stability for their families. Pray for success for these men, and wisdom and vision for Ron as he assists them.
BUILDING RENOVATIONS. Now that we officially own Ringjalia Center building, we are praying for the best way to use the doubled space we’ve been given. We have so many needs/dreams/ideas and we need wisdom to choose those which will best serve the purpose that God has given us.
SCHOOL PARNTERSHIPS. Lisa has begun a partnership with Prishtina High School as a school counselor, and is investigating how to partner with other high schools in Gjilan. We have an opening with the school of Agriculture and Arts, and seek your prayers that a way would open up for continuing education for teachers, and counseling for teens who are in crises. She will be preparing with the teachers this summer. Pray for effective resources and connections to surface as we venture into these partnerships.
BASKETBALL CAMP. Coach Mark Miller from Northridge Church has returned for a second time with his group of well-trained coaches to direct the camps and coach’s clinic.
CHURCH PLANTING IN KAMENIC. Pray that the Lord would send a couple as church planters to that city as we are anxious to see an ongoing presence of Christ followers in Kamenic.
