March 2011 Haiti Team UpdateFive Mosaic partners spent ten days in Haiti in early March helping to provide medical care for the people of Terre Blanche and the surrounding area. Dr. Ken Hahn, Gitta Rauen, RN, Stacy Bellavia, and Dave and Bonnie Zollner traveled with Haiti Foundation of Hope to this remote village in northern Haiti.
 Mosaic has been participating in this work for several years, and gives monthly support for the community health program that is having great success in teaching people to implement better health practices. A recent study shows a marked decrease in childhood diarrhea, which is the cause of death for many young children in the area. The team was able to see the construction of a latrine (pictured) — the first of eighteen being built with funds raised by Mosaic’s Advent giving.
Last year Mosaic gave Advent funds to buy a motorcycle for Dr. Avril (pictured), the clinic’s full-time Haitian physician. He uses it to visit the nearby villages and oversee the community health program, and the nurse also uses it to see people who can’t come to the clinic. The team got to see the motorcycle and snap the photo below.
