LAUNCHED:
Missio launched on September 18 and after a full month of weekly gatherings (what we call Expressions), we have seen a good number of new people enter our budding community. The positive momentum of the gatherings can be attributed to committed participation in missional communities, which are now swelling. On the verge of launching 2-3 new missional communities in SW-West Portland by the end of Fall 2011, Missio is currently (and constantly) in the process of identifying new potential leaders.
LOVE HAYHURST:
A highlight for Missio was interviewing Hayhurst Elementary School principal Deanne Froehlich at a recent Expression. Deanne expressed her gratitude for our forming partnership by calling us the community angel that loves her needy families. She was floored by the growth of Missio, sharing, "When I first met you all, you were a tiny group sitting around dinner tables. It's great to see how much you've developed. I hope that as you give to us this year we can give back to you."
This month Missio is tangibly expressing the love of Christ by collecting at our gatherings grocery gift cards purchased from Albertsons, Fred Meyer and Safeway. The goal is to provide meals for 50 Hayhurst families struggling to pay their bills during the Thanksgiving and Christmas season. Missio plans to present Deanne the gift cards at a future gathering in November.
FUTURE SPACE:
Missio is at 80% capacity in the quaint space it meets in each week. As more people find Christ through community life and gatherings, we are prayerfully seeking to secure a larger space to anticipate future growth in Winter/Spring 2012. Please pray that God would continue to provide more opportunities to share the Gospel and that Missio can find ways of providing the right space to make Jesus fully known.
